The programme will coincide with similar flagging off ceremony by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina in Dhaka.

The bus will travel to Dhaka via Shillong in Meghalaya.

Modi, who will be in Dhaka on a two-day visit, will also flag off the Kolkata-Dhaka-Agartala bus service along with Hasina on Saturday evening.

As instructed by the Central government, Gogoi will flag off a 32-seater Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC)’s air-conditioned bus at Inter State Bus Terminus in Guwahati at 5pm.

Assam Chief Secretary VK Pipersenia, and other ministers and officials would also be present, ASTC Managing Director KN Chetia said.

The bus will night-halt at Shillong on Saturday before reaching Dhaka on Sunday evening.

On May 23 last, a BRTC bus reached Guwahati from Dhaka via Shillong as part of a trial run.
