British High Commissioner Robert Gibson gave away the awards at a ceremony on Monday evening.

This is the third time the formal ceremony has been held at the High Commissioner’s residence.

This year has seen the most number of awards being presented across 56 institutions, the High Commission says.

Since 1956, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award has seen millions of people in over 140 countries and territories from all types of backgrounds engage in a variety of challenging activities and personal development.

In Bangladesh, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Foundation is relatively new as it started operations in August 2008.

The High Commission, however, says it has grown quickly with more than 10,000 receiving the awards until now.

“The hard work and dedication not just of those being awarded but of all those who volunteer and assist in making it happen is a testament to the vision of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award,” High Commissioner Gibson said during the ceremony.

He was delighted that the Duke of Edinburgh foundation in Bangladesh had been awarded a licence for six years to continue and build on that good work.
