Shibchar police OC Adbus Sattar said that the shootout happened at the Upazila’s Kutubpur on Tuesday morning.

Those dead are Arshed Matbar, an activist of local Juba League unit and shop-owner Shajahan Dorani.

Juba League is the youth affiliate of the ruling Awami League (AL).

A turf war was reported for a while in the area between local AL leader Atik Matbar and former Union Parishad Chairman Ibrahim Shikder, according to OC Sattar.

“The feud between the two factions escalated. On Tuesday morning, Arshed Matbar went to Shajahan Dorani’s shop and was attacked by Ibrahim Shikder’s supporters.

“They killed Shajahan (Dorani) before taking Arshed (Matbar) to a nearby field where he was shot dead. Later, locals recovered the bodies and took them to a hospital,” said the police officer.

Tension has gripped in the area after the murders on Tuesday morning. Additional policemen have been deployed to avoid any more untoward incident, said OC Sattar.
