But Assistant Teacher Dipak Kumar Roy of Kumrhakhali Shashibhushan High School has denied the allegation, saying they had a ‘minor argument’.

Betagi police say the woman filed a case with them. The Upazila administration has said they will investigate the charge.

The female teacher told bdnews24.com that she was her family’s sole bread winner, as her husband had been bedridden for a long time.

She said their financial difficulties had forced them to send their children to live with her parents.

Many, including her colleague Roy, tried to take ‘advantage’ of her situation, the victim alleged.

She claimed Roy had called her to school library where he physically and verbally assaulted her.

“He called me names and said ‘this school belongs to my father and grandfather. I order you not to come back here’,” she alleged.

Roy refuted the allegation.

“We had a minor altercation,” he told bdnews24.com. “There was no harassment.”

The school’s headmaster, Fanibhushan Singha, said he had heard about the incident but was away on official business.

“It is unfortunate,” Betagi Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abdullah Al Baki told bdnews24.com.

“The Upazila intermediate education officer has been directed to go to the school and investigate the incident.”
