The gold bars weighing almost 2.75 kg were found concealed inside the plane, which came from Dubai, Customs Assistant Commissioner Fatema Akter told a media briefing at the Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Saturday.

The flight was supposed to come to Dhaka via Sylhet, but due to bad weather it landed directly in Dhaka, she said.

The aircraft was searched following a tip-off, according to Akter.

“24 gold bars were found concealed in a life-jacket under a seat,” she said adding that no one was arrested over the seizure.

The estimated market value of the confiscated gold is around Tk 12 million, according to the customs official.
