Abdul Mannan Khan said the family was “ashamed” of his son’s ‘misdeed’.

“I don’t want to see my son’s face anymore,” Khan told bdnews24.com at his village home at Barguna’s Amtali Upazila on Friday.

The 21-year-old, who works as a salesperson at a shop in Jamuna Future Park, was gang-raped on a moving microbus on May 21.

RAB arrested Tushar, 35, and Jahidul Islam Lavlu, 26, for their suspected involvement.

It said the suspects had told them that no-one else was involved in the crime.

Tushar’s father cannot work anymore, according to his family.

“I pray that he dies before me,” he said, fighting back his tears.

Tushar, third among his six siblings, studied up to grade-V before moving to Dhaka in 1999 where he learnt to drive.

He was working as a driver at a buying house before his arrest.

His stepmother Fatema Begum said he gave them about Tk 2,000 every month, but it was spent on his father’s treatment.

Locals said he had visited his village home right after the May 21 incident and stayed there for a while.

His neighbours and residents of the village said he should be punished severely for what he allegedly did.

But the incident proved to be most shocking for his family.

“He (Tushar) should be punished for what he did,” his stepmother Fatema Begum said.
