RAB kills ‘drugs and weapons trader’ killed in Motijheel ‘shootout’

A ‘drugs and weapons trader’ has been killed in a ‘shootout’ with the Rapid Action Battalion in Motijheel.

The elite force claimed Altaf Hossain Sagar, 37, who hails from Bagerhat, had 10 cases of drug and weapons trafficking against him in Dhaka’s Motijheel, Khilgaon and Ramna police stations.

RAB-3 commander Golam Sorowar said the shootout took place at 1am on Thursday besides a community centre in Motijheel.

“Based on a tip off that weapons and drugs had been stocked up in the tin-shed garages besides the community centre, a special  operation team encircled the area.”

“Someone fired at the RAB personnel from one of the garages forcing them to retaliate.  After that, the miscreants fled.

“Sagar was found lying with bullet wounds. He was taken by the RAB personnel to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead. ”

Sorowar said they found handguns and ammunition at the site of the shoot out and a red car which Sagar owned in a garage alongside . The car was loaded with bottles of Phensedyl, a banned cough syrup used as a drug.

The other garages were also raided and the total haul amounted to one thousand phials of Phensedyl.
