One held over Chittagong double murder

Police have arrested a man alleged to be involved in the murder of a woman and her daughter in Chittagong’s Nalaparha area.

City Detective Police’s Additional Deputy Commissioner SM Tanvir Arafat told bdnews24.com that police have arrested a man named ‘Belal’, 22, from the Sadarghat area of the port city on Tuesday night.

On May 7, Nasima Begum, 28, wife of a local butcher Shah Alam and their daughter Ria Akhter Falguni, 10, were found murdered. Their dead bodies were recovered from the fifth floor of a building in South Nalaparha area.

The arrested, “Belal’, is a relative of Nasima Begum. However, police could not specify how they are related.

Earlier, Shah Alam’s children’s home tutor Md Rocky, 22, had been detained by the police for interrogation. He was released later.

More details will be provided at a press briefing, said the deputy commissioner.
