BCL groups fight over tender at Jahangirnagar University, teacher assaulted

Two groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League activists have fought over a tender in Jahangirnagar University.

An assistant proctor was assaulted when he tried to stop the fight on Tuesday afternoon.
 
Witnesses said BCL activists of Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall and AFM Kamaluddin Hall fought a running battle for over an hour.
 
Assistant Proctor Md Zulkarnine tried to stop them but failed.

The fight finally stopped at the intervention of BCL Jahangirnagar University unit President Mahmudur Rahman Johnny and General Secretary Rajib Ahmed Russell
 
JU Treasurer’s Office selected the winner of tender for cutting trees on the campus which fell during recent storms.
 
A BCL leader said, on condition of anonymity, a timber trader from Savar secured the job at Tk 145,000 with the help of the organisation’s Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall unit Deputy Research Secretary (sacked recently) Abdur Rahim Jewel and Cultural Affairs Secretary Sanwar Hossain.
 
“BCL university unit Deputy Finance Secretary Jewel Rana demanded share of the money (Abdur Rahim Jewel got from the trader for the deal). But he refused to pay,” he added.
 
The group clashed over the matter.
 
Johnny told reporters: “There was tension over a trivial matter, but the situation is normal now.”
