SUST student detained for ‘harassing, assaulting’ female student

A Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) student has been detained for allegedly harassing and assaulting a female student.

Police nabbed Rifat Adnan Papon, a student of business administration, from the campus on Tuesday afternoon.

He reportedly harassed a female student at the university gate and also assaulted her on Sunday night. Other students rescued her.

Papon had been suspended twice before for vandalising shops and beating up a foreign student on the campus.

Jalalabad Police Station OC Akter Hossain said they had detained Papon on the basis of the victim’s complaints.

“We apprehended him because we anticipated violent incidents if he remained free,” he added.
