The meteorological department said on Tuesday, the summer heat wave was dying out and monsoon winds are at work, causing showers.

It also said temperatures would be coming down to tolerable levels within one to two days.

Fresh showers hit Dhaka on Tuesday morning, a welcome relief from the scorching heat of the last few days.

On Monday, too, there were showers in Dhaka, Sylhet, Srimangal, Irshwardi, Rangpur, Dinajpur, Syedpur, Shatkhira, Jessore and Barisal.

The Met office recorded 38mm of rainfall in Dhaka on Tuesday and reported showers and storms outside the capital. It also forecast rainfall in all divisions in the country.

“The heat wave is dying out, but we would have to wait for at least 10 more days before the monsoon draft from southwest starts having its effect in Bangladesh,” the Met forecast officer said on Tuesday.

Met office director, Md Shah Alam said, “We can expect the monsoon winds to kick in from the first half of June.”

A Met department statement also stated that the south-western monsoon drafts had already reached Myanmar’s Rangoon coast.

It also warned of floods and landslides due to heavy shower in the country’s northwest.
