A head-on collision on the Dhaka-Gazipur Highway’s Porhabarhi on Monday left another 13 people injured.

Among those killed, Constable Mostofa Kamal, 40, and suspected criminals ‘Masud’, ‘Manik’, ‘Sohel’, ‘Momin’ and Suruj Mia have been identified.

The seventh, who is yet to be identified, is believed to be the driver of the ‘leguna’, a small four-wheeler human hauler, which was transporting the men to Gazipur City.

Four of the injured are being treated at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) and the rest at Gazipur’s Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College and Hospital (STAMCH).

Gazipur police have formed a committee to investigate the incident.

Sreepur Police Station OC Abdul Motalib has been withdrawn for transporting too many people on a small vehicle.

Sub-Inspector Moniruzzaman said six policemen were taking 13 accused to a Gazipur court when it collided with a covered van at Porhabarhi, killing the six on the spot.

Locals rescued them from there and took the injured to STAMCH.

Constable Kamal died while being shifted to the DMCH from there, he added.
