Police claimed they opened fired after the two young men hurled a crude bomb at a police patrol car in Jatrabarhi area around 12am on Sunday.
Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) police outpost Assistant Sub-Inspector Sentu Das confirmed that two men were brought to the hospital with bullet wounds.
“One of them, ‘Sohel’, died and the other, ‘Shajib’, was being treated for bullet wounds in the leg,” he said.
Both of them are accused in several cases filed with the Jatrabarhi police, Das said.
“They tried to flee after lobbing a bomb at a patrol car and the police opened fire,” he added.
