Extra coaches in trains due to bus strike in South: Railway

Bangladesh Railway has decided to provide additional coaches in four train services on the Dhaka-Khulna and Rajshahi-Khulna routes amid the bus strike on 18 southern routes.

A railway ministry statement on Sunday said the extra coaches would be provided on the Sundarban Express and Chitra Express trains in the Dhaka-Khulna route.
 
On the Rajshahi-Khulna route, Kapotaksha Express and Sagardarhi Express trains would be provided extra coaches, it said.
 
The ministry also decided to add as many coach as possible on every inter-city, mail and express trains operating on the southern routes, it said.
 
The statement also said that the ministry would add luggage-vans and give priority to transporting goods.
 
On Wednesday, a bus strike was called in the southern districts demanding unconditional release of two transport workers who were detained from Faridpur’s Madhukhali in a robbery case on May 18.
 
Transport owners and workers have been demanding unconditional release of the two and withdrawal of the Faridpur superintendent of police and Madhukhali Police Station OC.
 
No buses from Faridpur, Jessore, Kushtia, Jhenaidah, Khulna and Satkhira plied towards Dhaka until Sunday.
 
Passengers were compelled to use the railway as the only alternative since the beginning of the shutdown.
