Another suspected war criminal nabbed at Maheshkhali in Cox’s Bazar

Police have arrested another suspected war criminal from Maheshkhali of Cox’s Bazar after a warrant of arrest was issued by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT).

The arrested Md Shamsuddoha, 90, was nabbed from a relative’s house on Sunday morning.

Maheshkhali police station Inspector (Investigation) Didarul Ferdous told bdnews24.com :  “(Shamsuddoha) is accused of killing four persons in  Nurul Amin’s family, torching and looting his house at Debankoparha of Boro Maheshkhali in 1971.”

Accepting prosecution's plea on Thursday, the ICT headed by Justice Obaidul Hassan issued an arrest warrant against 16 persons in the district over crimes against humanity committed during Liberation War.

After the order, police raided different areas of Maheshkhali and arrested four people with warrants against until Friday.

Those arrested are Nurul Islam, 58, Osman Gani, 60, Mohammad Jinnat Ali, 57, and Badshah Mia Member, 75.

Earlier on Mar 1, the same tribunal issued arrest warrant against three people in Maheshkhali for committing crimes against humanity.

The next day police arrested Salamat Ullah Khan and Md Rashid Mia.

After they were produced before the court, the tribunal ordered them to be sent to jail.

The other accused, Moulvi Jakaria is still absconding.
