Al Amin, 20, in his court statement, ‘confessed’ to killing the 6-year-old girl after raping her, said Mohammadpur Police Station SI Kamal Krishna Saha on Wednesday.

The body of Nasima Akter Mukta was recovered from the water tank of a house in Mohammadpur on May 14.

They lived in the same building, home to some 100 low-income families.

Mukta’s father, house painter Mostafizur Rahman, filed a case with the Mohammadpur police, accusing Hazera Begum.
However, police ran into clues that led to Al Amin’s detention.
“Al Amin admitted that he had first raped Mukta,” said SI Saha, referring to the man’s admission during police interrogation.
“He then killed her with the sharp piece of a floor tile, fearing the child would tell others of what he did to her.”
Later, Al Amin made ‘confessional’ statement under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure before a court, he added.
