“We raided Atangeri hill in Moulvibazar on Tuesday at dawn based on a tip off. Razzak was planning to shift elsewhere later in the day,” Baniachang police OC Nirmalendu Chakravarty said.
The International Crimes Tribunal’s prosecution accused Razzak of being a member of the collaborator forces of the Pakistan army during the 1971 Liberation War.
The court is scheduled to hear on the charges on 25 May and decide whether to take cognisance .
On May 17, the prosecution pressed charges against the trio and a warrant for Razzak’s arrest was issued. Barha Mia and Angur Mia were already in prison.
The tribunal issued arrest warrant for the two on Feb 10 and Baniachang police arrested them hours later. They were produced before the tribunal on Feb 12.
Barha Mia, 65, is a former chairman of Khagaurha union under Baniachang Upazila, and Angur Mia, 60, is the current chairman of the union.
The investigation into the allegations against the three began on Feb 11 last year and was finished by Apr 28.
Statements of 21 witnesses were recorded.
The report on the findings say that the Razakar camp and torture cell in Baniachang’s Khagaura Union was located in the residence of Nezam-e-Islam’s MNA Syed Kamrul Ahsan.
Elder brother of Barha Mia and Angur Mia, ‘Kalamdhar’, was the head of the peace committee for Khagaura Union while their younger brother ‘Mostafa’ was the Razakar commander.
Wife of Freedom Fighter Akal Mia, Bhingraj Bibi, in 2009 filed a war crimes case accusing six including the trio.
