Mamunur Rashid was a resident of Chandraganj union under Lakshmipur’s Sadar Upazila and was a BCL activist, union Awami League chief Nizam Uddin said.

However, Lakshmipur’s Superintendent of Police Shah Mizan Shafiur Rahman said Mamun was a member of a local terror gang and rivalry between two local gangs could have led to his murder.

“The attackers shot him and fled. He died on the way to Noakhali Medical College Hospital.”

Mamun was attacked near his village when returning home form Deliai Bazar in Noakhali’s Chatkhil around 10:30pm on Monday.

SP Mizan told bdnews24.com: “Mamun was a member of Kawser’s gang in Noakhali’s Chatkhil. Our initial suspicion is that he could have been killed by members of the rival Jisan Gang due to turf wars.”

His body has been sent to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
