Three Awami League-backed councillor aspirants declared winners after re-polls

Three Awami League-backed councillor aspirants have been elected to Dhaka South City Corporation after re-voting in three centres.

The re-election was held in the three centres under three wards on Monday.

Returning Officer’s Staff Officer Nawabul Islam said Sultan Mia was elected councillor in Ward 8, Mohammad Samir in Ward 34 and Md Nur Hossain in Ward 53.

The Election Commission stopped voting in the three centres on Apr 28 due to irregularities.

The centres are Kamalapur Sher-e-Bangla Railway High School under Ward 8, Suritola Model Govt Primary School under Ward 34 and Jurain Ashraf Master Model High School under Ward 53.

Election officials said the re-voting was peaceful.

Elections to Dhaka North and South and Chittagong city corporations were held on Apr 28.
