One dies in Netrokona over ownership of disputed land

A farmer has been killed in a clash between two groups over harvesting a disputed land in Netrokona’s Kalmakanda Upazila.

Nine more were injured in the clash.

Kalmakanda Police Station’s OC Bashir Ahmed told bdnews24.com the clash on Tuesday morning left Jalu Mia, 55 dead.

The injured Rojob Ali, 32 and Ansar Ali, 28, have been taken to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospitals. The other injured are undergoing treatment at Kalmakanda Upazila Health Complex.

Quoting the locals, OC Bashir said, Jalu Mia had a dispute with local physician Amir Hossain regarding ownership of a piece of land. When Jalu Mia’s people went to harvest paddy in the land Amir Hossain’s people stopped them.

“Then both groups got into a fight with machetes and sharp weapons killing Jalu Mia on the spot.”

All injured are Jalu Mia’s people, said the OC.

Right after the incident police raided and detained Amir Hossain’s brother, Hossain Ali.

The body has been taken to Netrokona Adhunik Sadar Hospital morgue.
