Mayor, councillor-elects to take oath Wednesday

Mayor and councillor-elects of Dhaka North, South and Chittagong city corporations will take oath at the Prime Minister’s Office on Wednesday.

Local government ministry spokesperson Md Mominul Haque told bdnews24.com on Tuesday that the ceremony will begin at 9am. 
 
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to administer oath to the mayor-elects, while Local Government Minister Syed Ashraful Islam will do so for the councillors-elects.
 
The Election Commission on Thursday published the gazette containing the names of all the winners of the Apr 28 polls at the three city corporations, within 36 hours after unofficial release of poll-tabulated results.
 
Awami League-backed contenders dominated the mayor races with Annisul Huq set to take over Dhaka North, Sayeed Khokon Dhaka South and AJM Nasir Uddin in Chittagong city. A total of 44 percent votes were cast for the mayor’s posts. 
 
Dhaka North has 36 councillor-elects for general wards, 12 for reserved; South has 57 for general wards, 19 for reserved; and Chittagong has 41 for general ward and 14 for reserved wards.
 
The councillor race saw 41 percent votes cast in the two Dhaka city corporations, 49 in Chittagong and 42 in reserved wards.
