Quddus Mandal, who received gunshot wounds, heads the ‘Quddus Bahini (ML Lal Pataka)’ and hails from Jhenaidah’s Shailakupa Upazila, said police.

He is accused in five cases filed with the Panghsa police, including some for murder, according to local police OC Abu Shama Md Iqbal.

Mandal was arrested around 10pm on Monday based on a tip-off.

Police later took him along during a raid at Pangsha Upazila’s Kobamazail that was based on information received from him, said OC Iqbal.

“Quddus’ accomplices in the area fired at police as soon as they reached and that is when Quddus (Mandal) was hit. The assailants fled after police retaliated,” he told bdnews24.com.

A gun and few bullets were recovered from the spot while Mandal, who was shot in the leg, has been admitted to the Rajbarhi Sadar Hospital.
