BNP leader Mirza Fakhrul taken to hospital from prison

Senior BNP leader Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been shifted to a Dhaka hospital from Gazipur’s Kashimpur prison on Tuesday.

Jail Superintendent Prashant Kumar Banik said the BNP acting secretary general was sent to the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital around 7:45am on Tuesday.

Mirza Fakhrul is suffering from ‘internal carotid artery block’, according to the jail hospital’s physician Md Anwar Hossain.

“He is also suffering from irritable bowel syndrome, high blood-pressure, diabetes and cardiac ailments. He needs to see several specialists,” Hossain added.

The BNP leader was arrested in several cases of sabotage on Jan 6 this year after he emerged from a media briefing at the National Press Club.

He was sent to the Kashimpur prison on Jan 8 and has been lodged there ever since .
