It also let off Jamaat’s acting chief Maqbool Ahmed, Naeb-e-Amir Mujibur Rahman and acting Secretary General Shafiqur Rahman on Monday with a warning after finding their explanations ‘satisfactory’.

However, the first war crimes tribunal asked Islami Chhatra Shibir chief Abdul Jabbar and Secretary General Atiqur Rahman why contempt ruling should not be issued against them.

The Islami Chatra Shibir is the student affiliate of the Jamaat.

They have been asked to reply within three weeks.

In December 2014, the tribunal sentenced Jamaat leader Islam, who led the notorious Al-Badr militia in Rangpur, to death for the genocide of 1,400 Hindus during the Liberation War.

Most of war crimes convicts are from the Jamaat, a party which came out strongly in support of an united and non-secular Pakistan.

Jamaat, accused of committing war crimes, claims the tribunals fall short of international standard and that the trial process is flawed.

It alleges the government of unleashing political vendetta through the tribunal, a charge the government rejects.
