He went to Gulshan’s Manarat International School centre with his family members on Tuesday morning to vote.

Awal, son of BNP chief Khaleda Zia’s adviser Abdul Awal Mintoo, is contesting the polls with ‘bus’ symbol.

“We’ve set foot on road to democracy after a long time,” he said speaking to reporters after casting his vote.

“The law and order situation deteriorated a bit on Monday night before the vote,” Awal said. “Our agents went to the polling stations and now we’ll have to see if they’ve been able to enter the centres.”
The BNP-endorsed candidate hoped authorities would remain neutral during the polls.
“I hope my opponents will abide by the electoral code,” he added.
