Police said the incident took place at Kachalang of Baghachharhi Upazila’s Sajek Union on Thursday noon.

Ranesh Chakma aka Supreme, 35, hailed from Sajek and was an active member of the UPDF, he said.

“The army personnel found Supreme’s body and an SMG in the area. Forty rounds of ammunition were found when they searched his body.”
The fighting began when UPDF members launched an ‘unprovoked gun attack’ on an army patrol team, said Maj Md Rubayet Jamil of the army’s Khagrhaccharhi Brigade.
“The regular petrol team came under attack at Kachalang around 1pm. The soldiers retaliated by firing back.”
He said the attackers eventually retreated, leaving Supreme’s body behind.
The UPDF’s comment on the incident was not immediately available.
