Old Dhaka ‘terror’ Sagar Hossain, 24, and his close aid ‘Alamin’, 23, were picked up from Jatrabari on Wednesday, DMP Detective Branch spokesperson of Monirul Islam said on Wednesday afternoon.

Md Emdad Hossain, 36, Delwar Hossain, 24, and Chan Mia, 45, picked up from Kotwali the day before, were illegal firearms dealers from Chapainawabganj.

He also claimed during the briefing that four handguns were recovered from them.

“They admitted to have targeted two councillors. We are trying to find out who their targets were and are verifying co-conspirators they named.”

He added that they would seek permission to grill the five further in their custody.

Briefing on the event leading to the arrests, Monirul Islam said, “The price and demand for illegal firearms have gone up in Dhaka with the city polls around the corner.”

“Sagar used to call himself Dacoit Sagar imitating old Dhaka’s top terrorist Dacoit Shahid,” the policeman added.

He said the arrested was wanted in eight cases filed around the city for murder, extortion and arms dealing.

Islam said the three arms dealers had come to Dhaka to sell guns to Sagar. They were picked up on Tuesday and, based on information they gave, Sagar and Alamin were picked up in the early hours of Wednesday.
