Khaleda’s personal security staff said the two police personnel on duty in front of her home were withdrawn at 5am on Monday.

When asked, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Jahangir Alam told reporters she was not entitled to police protection.

“Since she had been the prime minister more than once, we have been giving police protection from time to time considering her personal security risks.”

According to state protocol, Khaleda is not entitled to police protection after boycotting the Jan 5 election.

However, the Chairpersons’ Security Force has been looking after her personal security.

During the BNP-led alliance’s agitation earlier this year when she moved to her Gulshan office, police personnel had been removed from her home.

Since Apr 5, when she returned to her home, they had been redeployed.

Earlier, on Saturday and Sunday, police security was in place while she was campaigning for her party-endorsed city poll candidates.
