Madan Police Station OC SM Mofizul Islam said two groups led by Kosim Mia and Shahid Mia were engaged in a dispute over harvesting crops on Monday morning.

The deceased Moslem Uddin, 65, was Shahid Mia’s father.

Critically injured Shahid Mia, 45, and Abul Mia, 55, have been taken to the Mymensingh Medical College and Hospitals.

The other injured ‘Khalil’, 45, ‘Kokil’, 40, ‘Jalal’, 30, and ‘Ratan’, 35, had been taken to the Madan Upazila health centre.

However, they left the hospital fearing arrest, said the physician Abdul Kuddus.

Quoting the locals OC Mofizul said, Kosim and Shahid had an ongoing feud over ownership of a piece of land.

When Shahid with his people had gone to harvest paddy at the field, Kosim and his group stopped them.

“Both the groups got into a fight with sticks and machete killing Moslem Uddin on the spot.”

Except for the two admitted at the hospital, others including Kosim Mia are absconding.

Police are looking for them, said the OC.
