Nor’wester claims eight lives in Kishoreganj, Mymensingh

A powerful storm sweeping across the greater Mymensingh region on Saturday has left eight people dead.

Officials said the Nor’wester left hundreds of houses damaged in seven Upazilas of Mymensingh and Kishoreganj districts.

Five people—among them a father and son—died in four Upazilas of Kishoreganj.

Hazrat Ali, 45 and his eight-year-old son ‘Rijon’ died when their tin-shed house at Pakundia Upazila collapsed during the storm.

Katiyadi Upazila’s Abdul Mannan, 45, died similarly.

A tree-branch fell on twelve-year-old ‘Rima’ at Bajitpur Upazila leaving her dead.

Kuliarchar Upazila’s Sheetal Barman, 32, died when a tree fell on him during the storm.

Another three were killed and at least 15 others injured in Mymensingh's Fulbarhia, Muktagachha and Trishal Upazilas.

Fulbarhia police OC Rifat Khan Nageeb said that one died and five others were injured when the storm uprooted a tree at Radha Kani Bazar. The dead man has been identified as Abdul Karim.

Jalaluddin Bhutto was killed after a tree fell on him at Santoshpur of Muktagacha Upazila. That left 10 others injured, said local police OC Kamal Hossain.

Meanwhile, Elias Ali died after being struck by lightning during the storm at Trishal Upazila’s Baliparha village, according to Trishal police OC MD Maniruzzaman.
