More than 1,100 workers had died at the worst-ever building collapse on Apr 24 in 2013 that drew global attention to Bangladesh’s factory safety and workers’ rights.

ILO had been engaged in improving the safety standards and rights safeguards in the last two years.

Nishimoto, who is also an assistant director general of the International Labour Organization, would meet ministers, and attend meetings with the industry leaders and workers.

On Wednesday, she will participate in the opening session of a national tripartite consultation on ‘social dialogue and industrial relations’ in Bangladesh.

She would also attend the inauguration of the ‘Centre of Excellence’ for the Bangladesh RMG sector.

Nishimoto will also speak at a high-level commemoration event, “Rana Plaza two years on: Towards a safer RMG sector for Bangladesh”.

She will also visit an RMG factory to meet a group of employees who became disabled after trapped under the Rana Plaza rubbles.
