A media statement of Dhaka Metropolitan Police said Kazi Hasibur Rahman was arrested from his Chamelibagh residence in the capital on Saturday night.

BNP leader Rahman, who is vying for the councillor post in Ward 13 in Dhaka South City Corporation with the ‘basket’ symbol, is accused in several cases over acts of subversion.

His arrest came two days after another councillor candidate, also a BNP leader, was nabbed in cases of sabotage.

ALM Kawsar Ahmed, a candidate in Ward 11 in Dhaka North City Corporation, was arrested on Thursday.

Ahmed was contesting the elections with BNP support but Rahman was contesting by defying the party’s decision.

Paltan Police Station OC Morshed Alam told bdnews24.com Rahman was accused in four cases filed over bomb explosion, arson attacks on vehicles and obstruction to police on duty.

The BNP is demanding ‘obstruction-free’ campaign of their candidates, but police said they would arrest the accused in cases unless they secured bails.
