The BNP-backed mayor candidate’s wife Afroza Abbas termed Awami League-supported Khokon ‘son’ while he called her ‘aunt’.

On Friday, Afroza went to Khokon’s house to seek vote.

She is campaigning for her husband, who is not making public appearance fearing arrest in a number of cases. He is trying to secure bail from the High Court.

She campaigned in Kamrangirchar throughout the day and went to Khokon’s home in the evening.
Khokon was not at home. His uncle Abdur Rahman and aunt hosted Afroza.
Mirza Abbas’ election publicity cell in a media statement said she exchanged greetings with the family of late Dhaka mayor Mohammad Hanif’s son Khokon.
She also said her Maghrib prayers there.
A member of Abbas’ publicity cell Ashraf Uddin Ahmed Rubel said Afroza sought votes from the members of Khokon’s family on behalf of her husband.
“She wanted to talk to Sayeed Khokon. But when Abdur Rahman rang him on his mobile phone, he did not take the call,” he said.
The statement said Afroza stayed at Khokon’s house for around 40 minutes.
She has been accusing Khokon of violating election code of conduct by pasting posters on walls and in many other ways.
Asked about the allegation, Khokon on last Wednesday had said, “She is my aunt. She should better complain to the Election Commission instead of saying these.”
On the following day, Afroza during campaign at Jatrabarhi, addressing Khokon, said, “You are like my son. Let us work as we wish.”
Mirza Abbas lost the Dhaka mayoral polls two decades agobto Khokon’s father Hanif.
This time Abbas is fighting with the symbol ‘mug’ and Khokon with ‘hilsha’.
