The pro-government groups – led by BCL’s university unit President Iftekharul Islam Rial and Joint General Secretary ‘Jemy’ – are trading charges over Thursday’s incident.

Dinajpur’s Additional Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar Sarkar identified the victims as ‘Milton’ and ‘Zakaria’.

Jemy claimed Rial led a group of activists wielding firearms and machetes and attacked them at a programme.

“They forced their way into Noor Hossain Hall and exploded several crude bombs,” he claimed.

But Rial refuted the allegation.

“A group of firearms-wielding outsiders, led by Jemy, attacked us at the Noor Hossain Hall. Milton and Zakaria died from bullet wounds,” he claimed.

The claims could not be independently verified.

However, the university’s student counsellor Prof Shahadat Hossain Khan told bdnews24.com that they raided Noor Hossain Hall around 9:30pm, half an hour after the clashes, and arrested four students.
