The family said 14-year-old ‘Azam’ was missing for the last two days and that they had received phone call demanding ransom.

Faridpur Kotwali Police OC Syed Mohsinul Haque said the body was found in a pond beside the Poshrha MN Aziz High School on Thursday.

Azam was a student of eighth grade of that school.

His father Sheikh Farid said the boy had been missing since Tuesday after he had gone to the school ground where a fair was being held on the first day of the Bengali New Year.

“We received several calls from a mobile phone number on Wednesday demanding a ransom of Tk 300, 000,” he said.

Local spotted a sack containing the body on Thursday morning and informed police, added Farid.

Police started investigating the matter, according to OC Haque.
