She made the call while speaking at a discussion organised by Parliamentary Network on the World Bank and IMF at Washington DC on Sunday.

The speaker said making policies alone would not be enough to create exploitation and discrimination-free societies.

She added gender balance had to be struck across the globe by formulating gender-sensitive budgets, according to a media statement of Parliament Secretariat issued on Monday.

Chaudhury said the Parliamentary Network, the World Bank, IMF and MPs of all countries would have to work for poverty alleviation, employment generation, gender parity, empowerment of the women and sustainable development of the world.

Parliament’s Chief Whip ASM Feroz and lawmakers Muhibur Rahman Manik and Sanjida Khanam also attended the discussion along with MPs from 100 countries.

The speaker left Dhaka on Friday to attend two international conferences in the United States and Germany.

She is scheduled to return to Bangladesh on Apr 21.
