The wage labourer was one of the nine to sustain severe burns when a petrol bomb hit the truck they were travelling on in Magura on Mar 21.

Those trying to impose the BNP-sponsored transport blockade were believed to be responsible for the fire-bombing.

Imran died around 6am on Wednesday at the burns unit of Dhaka Medical College & Hospital (DMCH), said the hospital police outpost’s Assistant Sub-Inspector Sentu Chandra Das.

Burns Unit doctor Partha Shankar Paul said Imran had suffered fifty percent burns.

With Imran's death, five of the nine fire-bombing victims have succumbed to their burns in hospital.

Four others are undergoing treatment and doctors say the condition of one remains critical.

After the fire-bombing on a truck at Mogirdhal in Magura on the night of Mar 21, one Raushan Ali Biswas died on way to the Dhaka.

Next day, Matin Biswas and Shakil Ahmed succumbed to their wounds at DMCH.

Four days later, another victim 'Yadul' died of severe burns.

The truck was hit by petrol bombs when the labourers were returning home after unloading a consignment of sand at Magura’s Shalikha.

More than 130 people have died so far, mostly in fire-bombings, since the BNP-led alliance started an indefinite nationwide transport blockade on Jan 5 this year.

Many more have been injured, mostly suffering serious burns.

Hundreds of vehicles have been burnt down and even trains have been attacked by the blockade campaigners.
