Bangladesh won this award in the ‘South and Southeast Asia’ category for significantly reducing gender gaps in politics.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam had received the award on behalf of the prime minister at African Union headquarters at Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa on Mar 25.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Shahriar Alam ‘passed on’ the award to Hasina at the Cabinet meeting on Monday.

The WIP Global Forum (WIP) is a Zurich-based global network of female parliamentarians from across the world.

The forum was established with an aim to build a network between women in parliaments for social development.

The forum presented the award to Bangladesh on the last day of its annual summit, based on the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report.

The European Union, OECD, the United Nations and the World Bank co-sponsored the summit.
