Speaking at the founding day of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Saturday, she called upon members of the force to work sincerely to prevent sabotages.

“Burning people alive is not acceptable at all. So proper steps need to be taken against such acts to ensure public security,” she told a gathering of the force’s members at its headquarters.

“We have seen movements which engaged the people. But what the BNP-Jamaat alliance is doing is not that. It seems that they are hell-bent on stopping the progress of Bangladesh,” said Hasina, emphasising on stability and peace for economic development.

Sheikh Hasina is the first head of the government to visit the RAB headquarters.

On militancy, she said that it was a global phenomenon now and it is imperative to stop its rise in Bangladesh. “Activities of militant outfits in Bangladesh have come down now, but operations against them need to continue.”

Speaking on the occasion of the 11th founding day of the force, Hasina said that her government had taken several steps for the betterment of elite police unit in the last six years.

“Plots of land have been allotted for the RAB headquarters in Dhaka and a training facility in Gazipur,” she said.

The RAB was formed in 2004 during the BNP-led alliance’s regime. It started operation on Mar 26 the same year.
