The incidents occurred at Chandipur High School at Bagha on Saturday.

Bagha Police Station OC Aminur Rahman said badly injured Headmaster Nazrul Islam was given first aid at the Upazila Health Complex and then sent to Rajsahahi Medical College and Hospital.

Police arrested teacher Mohammad Ali, who allegedly caned the students.

Locals said the school authority fixed Tk 100 per student as contribution for a picnic to be held at its premises on Sunday.

Mohammad Ali was entrusted to collect the contributions by Saturday.

Some students decided to skip the picnic and refused to contribute, as they did not accept a picnic on the school premises.

An angry Mohammad Ali caned 42 students, critically injuring 15 in the morning.

Hearing the news, their guardians came to the school and chased Mohammad Ali. He then entered a room and bolted the door.

The agitated guardians set fire to Mohammad Ali's motorcycle.

When the headmaster came out to calm the guardians, they beat him.

“He lost two teeth in the assault,” the OC said.

Bagha’s Upazia Nirbahee Officer came with police and rescued the headmaster later.

The guardians calmed down when Mohammad Ali’s resignation letter was shown to them.
