The party came out with the clarification soon after it had issued a statement that did not mention anything about its ongoing blockade, evoking speculations that the agitation programme, BNP had been enforcing since January 5, might have been withdrawn.
But soon, setting to rest all speculations, the party issued the second statement stating that the blockade would continue as usual.
Saturday’s first statement signed by BNP Joint Secretary General Barkatullah Bulu announced countrywide processions on Sunday demanding that “missing” leaders of the “opposition parties”, including Salahuddin Ahmed, be returned to their respective families unharmed.
But there was not mention about the transport blockade in the statement issued at 3.58pm.
However, about two hours later at 5:24pm, the party issued a corrected statement clarifying that the blockade would continue.
Earlier on Tuesday (Mar 24), ahead of the Independence Day, BNP had issued a statement signed by its Joint Secretary General Barkatullah Bulu without mentioning anything about the shutdown, the party was enforcing then.
