Some youths are throwing dirty liquids like tea or spitting on women travelling on auto-rickshaws.
Then they melt away in the crowds after the mischief.
Some unidentified person spat on Staff Correspondent Hasiba Ali Borna when she was on her way to office on Monday.
On the same day, Sub-Editor Asra Reza Choudhury suffered similar harassment.
Someone threw dirty liquid, possibly tea, on her in the same area.
Both were on auto-rickshaws, caught in traffic snarls.
A week ago, Sub-Editor Shenjuti Shonima Nadi faced a similar attack.
Asra said, “The attack came from the right hand side meaning the man was in the middle of the street, certainly not a suitable place to stand with a cup of cold tea at hand!”
When contacted, Mohakhali police box Sub-Inspector Madhusudan Majumder said he did not get any complaint.
He asked to inform the officer on duty if such incident occurs again.
Senior Assistant Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Women Support and Investigation Centre Asma Begum Rita was surprised to hear of the incidents.
“It’s a new form of harassment. Mobile courts will be set up on the spots if necessary. The police stations will also be informed,” she said.
