The suggestion of Assistant Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), Manoj Juneja, followed a visit to Dhaka’s slum areas on Tuesday.

“We need to unite to tackle problems in the ever-growing urban areas,” he said in a statement.

“Such an approach will not only safeguard the poorest and most vulnerable, but also facilitate economic benefits to a thriving urban population,” he added.

He also stressed the need to better understand dynamics and correlations in the slums to address the challenges effectively.

On his trip to Bangladesh, Juneja also visited the refugee camps in Cox’s Bazaar and witnessed WFP’s new innovative food assistance programme.
