Raushan Ara, wife of late additional superintendent of police Abdul Kuddus, was in her 60s while the maid, ‘Kalpana’, was 12 years old.

Police said their throats were slashed on Tuesday.

Raushan lived on the first floor of the house with her maidservants Lucky Akter and Lucky’s daughter ‘Kalpana’.

Lucky told police she was out of the house during the incident.

Neighbours rushed to the house when they heard Lucky cry out in the evening on seeing the bodies when she returned to the house.

Police officers rushed to the scene hearing the news of the murder of late colleague’s wife.

Deputy Commissioner Moshtaq Ahmed said the body of Raushan lay on the bed while that of Kalpana was found on the sofa.

He did not say anything more citing investigation by several law-enforcing agencies.

Two tenants live on the ground floor of the house. The second floor has been empty for the past month.

Tenant Mohammad Mostafa, who runs a grocery, said the collapsible gate remained closed all the time.

Neighbours said Raushan apparently had no dispute with anyone. She walked regularly to keep diabetes in check and went to the kitchen market every morning.

Mostafa said Kalpana came to buy eggs in the morning.

He said he came to house to watch a cricket World Cup match and returned to the shop in the afternoon but did not see anything suspicious.

“There is no chance for any outsider entering the house as the collapsible gate remains closed,” he said.

Inspector Mohammad Shahiduzzaman said they found stuff in the house in a shambles.

Police could not be sure whether something was missing.

Raushan’s relative Abdul Kayum said her three sons and two daughters live abroad.
