Around Tk 650 million is needed for city polls

The Election Commission (EC) needs around Tk 650 million to conduct the polls to the city corporations in Dhaka and Chittagong.

The cost of the polls to Dhaka North City Corporation and Dhaka South City Corporation has been estimated at around Tk 450 million .
 
Tk 200 million is estimated to be spend for polls to the Chittagong City Corporation.
 
EC Deputy Secretary Shahjahan Khan said on Tuesday that they would have to revise the amount if more law enforcers were needed for the elections.
 
EC officials have said two-third of the election expenses are for maintaining law and order.
 
Khan said the EC had the funds to conduct the election to the CCC.
 
He expressed the hope that they would get the funds for the city corporations in Dhaka soon following application to the Finance Division.
 
EC Deputy Secretary Shamsul Alam said the work for the polls was progressing to plan.
 
Officials said hundreds of thousands of people, including transporters, officials, law enforcers and magistrates, will work for the election.
 
The EC will discuss with the law enforcers and detectives on Apr 29 to finalise the level of security deployment for the elections.
 
Officials said BGB, RAB, Ansar, VDP and APBN would be deployed along with police.
 
Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad has said the decision to deploy army would be taken at the meeting with the law enforcers.
 
The voting will be held on Apr 28.
