Shibir is the student affiliate of the Jamaat-e-Islami and police says all those detained belong to the organisation.

Police say a lot of weapons and ammunition has been seized from the two hostels during the raids.

Detective Branch's Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADC) SM Tanvir Arafat told bdnews24.com that police raided the Suhrawardy and Sher-e-Bangla hostels of the Chittagong College just past midnight.

He said 72 Shibir activists were arrested between 2am to 6am during the raid.

Arafat said one Ak-22 training rifle and some other weapons were seized from the staff quarter area alongside the hostels.

They include three pistols, one .303 Lee Enfield rifle, 3 single barrel guns, one double barrel gun and around 100 rounds of ammunition were seized, he said.

5 rocket flares were also recovered.

Police's Kotwali Zone Assistant Commissioner Shah Abdur Rauf told bdnews24.com around 8am that the raids were still on.
