Poverty will not stop children’s education, says PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has emphasised on children’s education to enrich national spirit and promised to introduce them to latest information technology.

She says her government will ensure no children fail to get education for want of money.

At a function in Tungipara to remember Bangabandhu’s birth anniversary and the National Children’s Day, she said children should follow the ideology of Bangabandhu and help build a country devoted to the spirit of independence war.

“I will request you (the children) to remember you need education to grow up. Education is a priority. Not a single child would stay illiterate in Bangladeshl. They would grow up to have a decent lifestyle,” said the prime minister.

Commenting on the government’s utmost priority on education, she said children would not need to buy any books from now on. Free books up to class Ten are being make available. Now the books reach the children on the first day of the year.

“We have upgraded the quality of the books. This year we have distributed 326,347,923 books across the country,” she added.

Referring to the affordability of education she said, “Many parents cannot afford higher education for their children. Keeping that in mind we have set up the Education Assistance Trust Fund. We have been giving scholarships up to Bachelor’s Degree. We will not accept drop-outs for want of money.”

Addressing the lower number of drop outs she said all necessary steps are being taken to ensure that every child gets education.
