President Abdul Hamid sets off for London

Bangladesh President Md Abdul Hamid has set off for London on a nine-day medical tour for the treatment of an eye problem and health check-up.

His Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad told bdnews24.com that the president left for London on a regular Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight at 11am on Friday. 
 
Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, Diplomatic Corp Dean in Dhaka Shaher Mohammad, and British High Commissioner to Dhaka Robert Gibson saw him off at the airport. 
 
Senior officials including chiefs of the armed forces were also present. 
 
The president had earlier gone to London in August for the treatment of his glaucoma problem. 
 
The 72-year-old has been suffering from the ailment for a long time and had gone to Singapore a number of times when he was the speaker of Parliament. 
 
He also went for treatment to Singapore after taking oath as the President in April 2013.
 
Hamid is expected to return on Mar 15, according to his Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim.
