Bombs blasted at residences of six BNP leaders in Jessore

More than 30 crude hand bombs have been blasted at the residences of six BNP leaders in Jessore amidst the ongoing blockades and shutdowns enforced by the party and its allies.

Police initially claimed the blasts after Thursday midnight were fireworks of the Dol festival but later admitted they were bomb explosions.
 
Kotwali police OC Shikder Akkas said there were consecutive explosions after after 1am. 
 
Locals said they heard the blasts occurring at the residences of local BNP leaders, including that of the party’s Standing Committee Member and former minister Tariqul Islam. 
 
The blasts were first heard near the residence of Rafiqul Islam Chowdhury, son of late BNP leader Chowdhury Shahidul Islam Noyon, at the town’s Chowrasta Area. 
 

“There was sound of 10 or more blasts after nine motorcycles with three riders each went towards Biplob’s house from in front of the Kotwali police station,” Julkad Hossain, the night guard of the area told bdnews24.com.  
“All of them were armed.”  
Sound of blasts then rocked Ghop Central Road Area where Tariqul Islam’s residence is located. 
A night guard requesting anonymity said that 10 motorcycles, each with three riders were ‘in position’ at various points of the road’s Rajur Mor. 
Some of them got down and walked to Tariqul Islam’s house. They had small white containers in their hands. Blasts were heard soon after they went near the house. 
Tariqul’s wife, Nargis Begum, said five bombs were blasted at their house. “The window panes on the first floor were shattered by the impact.” 
The next blasts took place in the Uposhohor area at the residence of district BNP General Secretary Syed Saberul Haque Sabu. 
His neighbour, journalist Mirajul Kabir said, “A number of people on motorcycles came to the house, blasted the bombs and left.”
Bombs were also exploded at the residences of district unit’s Vice-President Golam Reza Dulu, Organising Secretary Delawar Hossain Khokon,General Secretary Munir Ahmed Siqqiqui Bachchu,. and Assistant Secretary and Jessore Chamber of Commerce’s former president Mijanur Rahman Khan.
Kotwali police Sub-Inspector Mintu Mia visited the Tariqul’s house and collected splinters and fragments as evidence. 
Bombs were also blasted on Jan 29 at the residences of Biplob, Tariqul, Sabu, Dulu and Khokon. A rickshaw garage owned by Mijanur was set on fire. No cases or complaints were lodged over the blasts or arson.
