Minister Obaidul Quader’s royalty from books goes to burn victims in DMCH

Roads and bridges minister Obaidul Quader has donated Tk 540,000 earned as royalty for books sold in the Ekushey Book Fair to burn victims.

The donations were distributed among 54 victims under treatment in Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Thursday. The minister also talked with some of the victims during the donations.

Roads and Highways Department Senior Public Relations Officer Abu Naser told bdnews24.com that the amount includes royalty from two books launched in this year’s fair, six previous ones and some personal funds.

More than a hundred people have been killed in violence marking the ongoing blockage and shutdowns being implemented by the BNP-led alliance over the last two months.

More than half of them died of burns sustained in firebombings and arson of vehicles. Numerous have been injured.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina went to visit burn victims and gave each family Tk 1 million in saving certificates.
